Quiénes Somos

Runa Tulpa Andina is a restaurant, located in the Historic Center of Quito on García Moreno and Manabí streets. It is a space supported by three women who during their professional lives have been linked to organizational and community processes, actively working with popular and solidarity economy projects. This previous experience and its direct relationship with the countryside make possible the creation of this space that seeks to recover the flavors, products, traditions, memories of Ecuadorian food through gastronomy.

Runa Tulpa Andina is the recognition of that historical legacy transmitted from generation to generation through memory and oral culture that is condensed in flavors, colors and smells in emblematic dishes that characterize Ecuadorian food.

We also seek through our gastronomy, open kitchen, to contact local producers so that
provide us with their natural, organic products supported by work and fair trade, in order to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy, especially strengthening the networks of producers of the popular and solidarity economy, as a commitment to the redistribution of resources among those who support and take care of the land.

Finally, our proposal seeks to generate work and employment, in conditions of dignity for those who
add to our project, because we firmly believe that not only capital is key for the implementation of projects, but also the human force that adds up and makes the crystallization of dreams possible, therefore, all of us who do Runa must be recognized and treated in conditions of dignity.

Our great team makes it possible for this Runa dream to continue firm and grow.

Our passionate and dedicated team strive to provide you with exceptional service, ensuring that every detail is carefully prepared.

Our Concept

Historically, our towns and communities gathered around the sacred fire to cook, tell stories, and sustain memory. The tradition of the peoples is sustained from orality, the delivery of knowledge through the word and the heat of the fire.

Runa Tulpa Andina, is the remembrance of the Ecuadorian community kitchen. It is to recognize the flavors of our traditional products cooked in the heat of the sacred fires, in the heat of firewood, in the heat of the Tulpa.

Our traditional Ecuadorian food is the set of dishes and foods that have been part of the country's culinary culture for generations; the mixture of flavors, aromas, textures and colors are those that reflect the diversity and cultural richness that we have.

Between corn, barley, quinoa, wheat, cocoa, garlic, aloe vera, we raise our main altar to ritualize our food. Every morning, among reeds and flowers, the sacred smoke rises to cleanse our space and sustain the vital energy that will be provided to our diners through our dishes.

In our kitchen, at Runa Tulpa Andina, we want to preserve that legacy with gratitude, respect and rebellion. Well, after the colony process, our flavors, textures, knowledge, memory are the only things that have not been taken away or expropriated. It is those dishes loaded with memory that we make available to everyone who comes to Runa Tulpa Andina.
